Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We celebrate diversity at our school. Our students and their families bring rich experiences that elevate learning for all. Our Title I school is staffed by caring personnel that work together to provide the highest quality education to our students.
We are a community of learners: students, families, and staff alike.
Our students look forward to learning and growing together. In my class, they are taking the next step as global citizens by learning a foreign language to better connect to the world around them.
My Project
Students will develop Spanish language through mathematical practices. Learning a new language is challenging. Math bridges the gap between native and target languages.
The Daily Math Fluency kit facilitates development of numeracy and the ability to use mathematical relationships to reason with numbers and numerical concepts in Spanish.
Students will master fluency strategies using visual models and manipulatives. Fluency strategies include splitting, using a friendly number, getting to a friendly number, and give and take. The kit reinforces mathematical practices and extends Spanish vocabulary as students explain and defend their thinking.
Students will increase their mathematical and language understanding through engaging and practical application.
