My Students

My students are an amazing group of first graders that love to learn and are eager to please. They deserve every opportunity that can be provided to learn academic and social skills. The school that we attend has a high poverty rate where 85% of the students receive free or reduced meals. The students come from a variety of backgrounds and they have a wide range of abilities and strengths. Expectations are set high so that they will be prepared for what is expected of them in the future. My goal is to do anything possible to set them up for success. Thank you for seeing the potential that my students have and helping to provide them with every tool that they deserve to overcome the daily academic, social/emotional and behavioral challenges that they face!

My Project

I am so excited to increase the focus on social skills in my classroom this year. My students work very hard all day and make tremendous academic growth. Their social development is just as important and has been a focus every year.

Our school has been so supportive of this social/emotional focus that we have made a commitment to hold daily class meetings where we discuss everything from problem solving skills, kindness, character traits, empathy, standing up for others, mindfulness, friendship skills and growth mindset (we work hard, recognize our strengths, set goals, learn at different paces and don't give up).

The books chosen all have a strong message that will help drive our discussions. The book shelves will spotlight these books and provide a special spot where children will know they can go to find their favorite books over and over again. Thank you for helping us grow in all areas this year, both social and academic!
