My students are full of inquiry and are hungry to learn! Throughout the day I see two classes of fifth graders for literacy. These children's reading levels vary from 3rd-6th grade, which requires a variety of reading materials.
Along with the varying reading levels, my children come from very diverse backgrounds.
Our school has an extremely high ESOL population. Our classroom is made up of students who have just entered the country and speak little to no English. We also have learners with academic hurdles who require special education services.
My Project
As a part of an IB School in Philadelphia, my fifth grade students work on a culminating exhibition at the end of the school year as they move from the elementary to middle school level. Through our Mayfair Rocks project, students will research the positive aspects of social media.
In addition, our fifth graders will plan and implement a community outreach activity to spread positivity throughout the Mayfair Community.
These supplies will help my class to plan, research and create specially designed and decorated rocks that will be spread throughout the neighborhood to share words of kindness, encouragement and joy!
