Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Indio High School is a comprehensive school that bridges the rich tradition of the Indio community to the challenges of the twenty-first century by providing its diverse student population with rigorous academics, complimented by athletics, the arts and activities. Indio High School students are composed of eighty percent free or reduced price lunch recipients. The school offers its students a safe and inclusive environment in which they can pursue courses of study in a supportive, intellectual, social, emotional and physical environment that cultivates each student's individuality and talents. Highly qualified and caring professional educators, in concert with its parents and community, are committed to the goal of preparing all students to successfully meet future educational challenges. As a cornerstone of the city, Indio High School is committed to building relationships among students, parents, staff, alumni and the Indio community.
My Project
Each student going onto a four year institution will receive a going away package with bare essentials for their first day in college. The care package will include a string backpack, a note book to write down all their fabulous ideas, Smarties to remind our students that they are smart, erasers to remind our students that it is okay to make mistakes, a pen because they are stuPENdous, a pencil so they can always be on point in their life decisions, a glue stick to remind our students that we stick together even if we are miles apart, a highlighter to remind them that they will be the highlight of their destiny, a pack of goldfish as a thank you for being part of our school pack and to snack on during class and lastly, a glow-stick to remind them to be the force and light the way in the world.
Our request for a Chromebook is to have students electronically sign their post secondary plans to start creating a mentorship data program with our alumni students and current students going onto post secondary plans.
