This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I've had the pleasure of teaching a group of energetic 5 and 6-year-old Kindergarten students. For some, this started out as their first experience in a structured school environment. They were so excited and eager to learn new things every day. The classroom had become a discovery zone!
My Kindergarten students had mastered so many skills and then we were faced with adapting to the new norm, Distance Learning.
It has been challenging for us all. Once schools were closed, students were not allowed to enter the building to retrieve personal supplies or materials. Most students are without the basic supplies needed to be successful during Distance Learning. A large percentage of my class also rely on school meals being provided during the day.
My Project
With the economy being in the worst state since the Great Depression, most families are struggling to keep food on the table. Research has shown that children snack at least three times a day.
Unfortunately, some families are not able to pick up the nutritious school meals that are provided at various sites located in the county.
Since the coronavirus pandemic started, many families are having to shelter in place. In my opinion, it would be one less burden to families knowing a snack is being provided. I know for a fact that my students would be very appreciative!
