Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

All students should have access to amazing books. Most of my students have limited resources to buy new books. This classroom library will give them the opportunity to borrow some great books for nightly reading.

I assign independent reading for homework every night.

Some of my students read books that are below their grade level or they read the same book over and over. Sometimes it's hard for families to buy new, grade level books every year. I think my students would be thrilled to be able to borrow books that we talk about in class.

My Project

Imagine your very own personal collection of interesting, amazing books at your reading level. This could be a possibility for my fourth grade classroom. This library will inspire my students to read every night. I will challenge them with a rewards or point system so they will keep track of all the books they read. They will also be able to share their insights with other students that read the same book.

My goal is to have my students read a new book every week.

The library will be set up on a checkout basis so students will be able to read at their own speed. The books in this collection are classics that will stay in the memories of my students for their whole lives. I also plan to read some of these books to them to grab their interest.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
