"Beating the computer" is the way my 6th grade students love to learn! We have limited time using our writing software. Coming prepared to the lab is crucial and makes the most of our technology. Explicit examples of writing techniques that certain picture books provide help us "beat the computer".
Our school has a large student population that shares limited computer lab time.
In sixth grade, every minute counts when using our writing software. This is an obstacle for some sixth graders because they have a hard time 'getting started'.
Confidence comes to any learner when they are prepared and excited to show off what they have learned and mastered. For 11 and 12 years old students, improving computer scores weekly becomes an exciting challenge--and it increases their writing and comprehension skills. We need to be ready to demonstrate new writing techniques every week during our hour of lab time.
My Project
Inspiring 11 and 12-years-old kids takes ingenuity and enthusiasm that can come with quality lessons. I have found that my students quickly grasp new writing techniques when I present and teach with quality books. My students' skills soar by studying picture books that precisely demonstrate various writing styles. Inviting pictures with captivating text helps focus and capture sixth graders' ability to analyze. Weekly, they can improve their writing skills and grow into confident writers.
Coming prepared and confident to our writing lab is essential.
We have quality software, we need the tools that will maximize our potential our technology offers. Quality picture books provide concrete and memorable examples that sixth graders can incorporate at the computer. Learning explodes and confidence soars each time a student improves her/his own score. Please help us maximize our learning and our technology time!
