Help me give my students classroom seating options, such as the Rectangular Activity table and the Kid Floor Seats, that will increase their focus and attention!
Do you have to sit in a desk all day? Would you want a chance to have some freedom to move around? Sitting in a desk all day would make even the most patient adult frustrated. Providing flexible seating for my students would be mean more focused learners for my students who have an incredible range of needs. I have students with ADHD, ADD, Autism, and many others that are processing trauma. These students need specific, physical accommodations for their learning.
Despite their hardships, my students are kind, compassionate, enthusiastic learners who deserve the best possible opportunities to succeed.
Not only are my students are from a range of socioeconomic, ethnic, and racial backgrounds, many have suffered trauma and stress that most adults do not have to face. By providing a range of seating my students can be in a learning environment that fits their needs.
My Project
A classroom with flexible seating allows students to not only be comfortable while learning, they suddenly have much more independence and autonomy. Using the large activity tables will allow students to have have a wider and more open work space. These tables also allow students to work easily in groups or partners. Students who use the lap desks and floor seating options will have the choices to sit on chairs, on the floor, or in other comfortable spaces. They can also lay on their stomachs and lay down. The variety of floor seats and lap desks will also allow students to sit in less traditional seats, such as on the floor near the whiteboard or on tables shortened to the floor.
Flexible seating will allow my students to work in the least restrictive environment where they can embrace independence and autonomy.
Students in my classroom often ask to stand or move around the room in order to allow their bodies some movement. My students are at their most productive at times of independent or group work where they can have a choice in where in the room they work. Flexible seating will allow my students to be more attentive and focused in class because they will be comfortable in their seats.
