My students need a set of Chromebooks to be able to take them beyond the walls of our classroom to explore, create and be successful in the 21st century.
My students are a great bunch of dedicated and curious kids. They have a true passion for learning and are constantly competing with one another in a race for the top. We are halfway through a successful and fantastic year in 6th grade!
Despite the many challenges that face my students, they come to school each day eager and ready to learn.
They are determined to improve their reading skills and thrive when making connections to historical events and their lives today.
It is imperative that we close the achievement gap that exists in too many urban areas, especially in Philadelphia. All students deserve a fair and equal opportunity to a rigorous, challenging and supportive educational community. I am constantly amazed by the resilience and continued determination and success of my students and their families. They want bright futures and we work together every day to make that a reality.
My Project
My students are in need of five additional Chromebooks for our classroom. Thanks to the generosity of previous sponsors, we currently have 11 devices (iPads, Chromebooks, and a Macbook) that allow us to interact with various technology platforms. However, with 32 students, this only allows about 1/3 of our class to be engaging with technology at a time.
An additional five Chromebooks would allow for a ratio of two students to one device, which would greatly maximize our potential for collaborative projects that allow us to learn, explore and create.
Our school has purchased licenses for exciting and engaging software to help boost student achievement and support our students' success in this 21st century learning environment. The opportunity to engage with technology is a huge motivator for many of our students and I would love to support students in taking full advantage of these resources for their growth and benefit.
Many of our students have limited, if any, access to technology at home, and although we are blessed to have a computer lab in our school, due to the large number of classes, my students only get 45 minutes of time per week to use the computers in the lab.
We are also asking for 30 pairs of noise canceling headphones which will allow my students to maximize their learning by being able to "tune out" noise and distractions to keep them focused and motivated.
In today's world, a huge majority of our everyday lives revolve around technology and being able to interact with the world through various technological outlets. Please consider donating to help me bring that knowledge and the ability to practice using technology productively to my deserving 6th graders!
