Mrs. Pinilla from Dallas TX is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need yoga mats to establish a yoga practice that will enhance our brain body curriculum and mindfulness in the classroom.

The NWH Early Childhood Center serves children in PreK 3 and 4, Kindergarten, and PPCD (Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities) in the Historic District of Dallas. I lead the Special Education program at the school and our PreK students all meet federal guidelines to attend the early childhood program, showing either low income, a foster child, an active duty parent, or other requirements to qualify for school.
The students here are eager to come to school each day and learn to be their best as individuals as we emphasize that Greatness Starts Early.
The students engage in rigorous curriculum that addresses the development of the whole child. We have mindfulness lessons currently and calming strategies. As a supplement this year, I am a Registered Yoga Teacher and would like to bring yoga to our school for all students and parents who would like to learn more during family connection events.
Establishing healthy habits and mindfulness at a young age is paramount for student success when they move on with their lives into upper grades and higher learning. As an Early Childhood Center demonstration site, I am seeking to expand our current lessons to increase the brain body connection through meaningful movement on the mat.
Yoga helps children to manage their stress through breathing, awareness, meditation, and healthy movement while improving concentration and increasing their confidence while maintaining a positive body image.
By funding our project of purchasing yoga mat rolls, we will be able to maximize the number of mats created based on the size of children so they each can have a mat of their own to use. We will have weekly yoga sessions at each grade level, provide tools to classroom teachers to use asana in the classroom as focusing and calming techniques, and include our community in the yoga practice as well.
