Math is an essential subject for all modern day students. Now with common core the discovery and experimentation with math is critical.
My students attend a charter school that serves 6 counties in eastern North Carolina.
Most of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. My students are hard working, curious, creative, and love to be active. They do not let their background or home life get them down.
My Project
These materials will help us with our math stations. Right now my students cannot move far from their desk to write. The clipboards will allow movement around the classroom, school building, and outside. The dry erase markers allow the students to work without additional copies which are always hurting the school's budget. The school has distributed all the balances we have. Last year I had to borrow one and it didn't really work well. I would love my students to explore measurement with our own scale that will really measure well. The last thing I am asking for is a book that incorporates one of our math concepts. I have great activities for the book, but we do not have the book. The students will be able to make their own version of the book after we read it!
This project incorporates many simple things to help my students to further explore math concepts without the restriction of their desks.
My students will be able to participate in centers that will practice addition, subtraction, geometry, algebra, data, and measurement. This will also free my time to work with smaller groups of students and their weak areas. Help my students discover the joy of learning in stations!
