My young learners are eager to build their math minds. They enjoy and are highly motivated when provided learning experiences with hands-on, collaborative and multi-sensory learning activities.
Understanding numeracy, or a sense of Number, is requisite and builds a critical foundation for proficiency with higher-level mathematics.
I work hard to help my young scholars develop conceptual mathematics understanding and procedural fluency with a variety of tools and differentiated experiences along with student choice for relevance. I do a lot of work with developing the Standards for Mathematical Practices and mathematics vocabulary which will support my learners as they move through all grades. I seek to facilitate my learners to mathematize their world and see how mathematics is applied in their lives, daily.
We build a strong sense of belonging to a learning community and being a TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) as we progress through the year. My scholars are enjoying learning about the brain and learning how to learn. Literacy, mathematics and STEAM exploration are strongly emphasized and greatly enjoyed in my classroom.
My Project
My young scholars learn best and choose to interact with multi-modal and multi-sensory instruction, learning experiences, activities and practice. They are highly motivated to share their mathematical thinking daily. The daily math fluency kit will provide a balance and variety of visual models and activities that can be implemented in a brief amount of time each day and are engaging and challenging for developing young math minds.
Building a strong sense of Number early on is foundational and imperative in order to achieve proficiency, conceptualize, comprehend and apply basic and higher-level mathematics which is critical for the future of my young learners.
