My Students

My students are from a large, urban community that welcomes families from all over the globe. They bring a special blend of linguistic diversity, background knowledge, prior experiences and culture to our school. We are a Title I school in a low-income community, and I have twenty-eight students in my class. Free breakfast and free lunch are available to every child in our building each day.

I grew up in this city, and I truly believe I am meant to teach here and give back all I can to my hometown.

My school is a magical place. Despite the challenging home lives of many, my students walk in the door of our quaint little building and are welcomed with heartfelt greetings and genuine smiles, and they are ready to be the best they can be.

Our staff provides specific academic, emotional, and behavioral support to students to meet their specific needs so they can reach their personal potential. I am blessed to witness incredible student growth during each school year, a result of the dedication of my colleagues and hard work of our students.

My Project

My goal as a teacher is create thinkers - flexible problem solvers who enjoy a challenge. Math puzzles, problems, and activities will be posted all around the school so students are immersed in the magic of math at every possible moment during the day.

I plan to make sure students can engage in math everywhere they turn - around every corner, down every hallway, in the bathroom, and even on the playground!

We will use the sheet protectors to hold the content on the walls, which will change weekly for every grade level. The rubber circles will be labeled with the numbers 1-120 so students can manipulate them on a giant playground hundreds chart. Students will earn math prizes, like pencils and fancy dice, for their great strategies and effort.

Please help me help my students grow a love and enthusiasm for math and all its magic.
