My Students
My math students are eager to learn and understand their grade-level math concepts. They better understand math concepts when they are able to use manipulative, play math-related games, and use game-type technology. When using the math manipulative they are able to discuss what they are doing, and this enables them to make connections to real life. They enjoy turning and talking when they have visuals to assist with their explanation. They are very excited to use the models when attempting to solve problems.
My Project
Hands-on resources, such as math games, learning centers, puzzles, and journals keep the students engaged and focused, hence they tend to retain what they have learned. The materials will be used in the classroom with first and second-grade students in need of differentiated instruction in a small group setting.
The math lesson will begin with the Number of the Day Chart and/or the Daily Math Practice Journal with students actively participating or taking the lead.
Students participate in mini-lesson and rotate through centers to practice new/remediated math concepts.
