Mathematics in Motion!

Help me give my students the opportunity to explore the mathematical ideas behind motion using Texas Instruments CBR Motion Detectors.

My Students

My many mathematicians range greatly in age, family background, ability, and so much more.

While many of the factors that make up my student have a large variance, one thing is consistent: They are all held to a very high expectation.

My students come from a rural Wisconsin community that is about 20 miles outside of a major metropolitan area. While they are relatively close to an urban area, many of my students rarely travel outside of our rural community.

My Project

TI CBR Motion Detectors will allow my Algebra students to explore how their physical position from the detector and speed at which they walk relate to the graph and equation of the data they will be able to collect. My Algebra 2 and Pre Calculus students would be able to collect data from these motion detectors to further investigate how changes in speed can create other curves.

TI CBR Motion Detectors will also support my goal of creating real life experiences in learning mathematics, and will also meet my students' need for physical movement during an 85 minute block schedule.

These motion detectors are compatible with our TI-84 Graphing Calculators and will also aid in creating collaborative investigations.
