This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach sixth grade math at a Title I school in Miami, Florida. Ninety-one percent of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of them come from immigrant families who are struggling to get established in this country.

Many of our students do not have access to basic school materials or essential tools for daily learning.

My students are eager to learn and they want to understand math in a very fun and interactive way. Please help my students be ready for standardized testing and for math proficiency overall.

My Project

One of the major challenges in teaching 6th graders is that many of them lack of organization skills. In my math class, students learn that in order to succeed in math, they must be prepared, organized and have all their materials at reach.

My students will work in teams and each team will have a shelf with all the materials they need for their math stations and rotations.

Each station has plastic bins with paper, highlighters, pencils, erasers, small boards, markers; so students are not wasting time borrowing or looking for classroom materials.

We also play math games in order to apply the math learned concepts. Our main purpose is to engage students to practice and love math by having a variety of interactive lessons and hands-on activities.

Any little help to have the essential basic materials would be helpful and appreciated. Please make it happen for our students and their future. Math can be challenging for middle schoolers but it can also be fun. Thanks in advance!
