This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are intelligent and fun-loving kids who work diligently on whatever I ask them to do. They want to succeed but are dealing with limited exposure to technology and learning virtually. Many come from low-income households and have not had much experience with technology other than TVs or cellphones.
Many of my students are really struggling with online learning.
Most were depending on worksheet packets and whatever resources they have at home. Despite the hardships they are facing with school being closed, they are eager learners.
My Project
My awesome students have been working unbelievably hard to understand and complete the math assignments that I have given them through Microsoft Teams, YouTube, and Zearn. However, now that my dining room is my classroom, my learners would benefit greatly from me having manipulatives that would help them see and grasp the ideas a bit more easily. Before we left, my students had learned how to add and subtract 3 digit numbers with and without regrouping and were ready to tackle multiplication which will be a preview of what they need to master in order to succeed next year.
It is very important that I have the resources to help them grasp the concepts and skills they need to succeed in the next school year.
The math manipulatives will help me to prevent learning loss this year in addition to preparing my students for learning next year. No pandemic will stop me from helping my students learn the skills they need to be successful in life.
