Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This school year has been filled with many changes and exciting lessons. 6th, 7th, and 8th grade are tough, but fun years. My students try their hardest despite their academic and behavioral issues. It is my hope to instill in them the knowledge to get them through their last years in elementary school, as well as to prepare them for high school and beyond. I strive to create a warm, safe, and welcoming learning environment where every student feel successful and loved.
I teach in a low-poverty neighborhood in Chicago.
My students are predominately African American and Hispanic. All of them receive special education services for academics or behavior. Although they struggle on a daily basis, they are motivated to do well and strive to work to their highest potential. They are hard working and excited to learn. My 6th, 7th and 8th graders deserve the best education, materials, technology, and books that I can get for them. I want their last years in elementary school to be filled with many academic achievements and great memories.
My Project
Being new to the math department at my school, I am lacking some necessary items that I feel are important to learning math. We do not have calculators designed for all math skills. Having the proper materials will not only help make math easier for my students, but it will allow me to cover a wide range of math skills in the classroom. All of my students have struggles with math, reading and other academic or behavioral issues.
Providing them tools for success will ensure that they are learning to the best of their ability with the best materials possible.
I want my students to look back and know that not only did I do my very best to ensure their education was on point, but I provided them with multiple outlets to learn from. With the requested materials, my students will be able to learn math with the ease of a calculator and the math quiz cards will not only appear as they are playing a game, but they will learn through a new interactive means that they may not have been provided with in the past. Please consider donating to this project to help reach students who want to learn!
