My students need Bead Wood Rekenreks to help develop addition and subtraction strategies.

My school is a very small school in a very large urban community. My classroom is a bustling place of exploration and growth. My children are dreamers who love learning and are always looking to expand their knowledge. The inquiry process is alive and well in our cozy environment. We leave no question unanswered.
Unfortunately, we are in a high poverty area, and our budget does not always match our dreams.
There are so many things to do, and we just need a little help to be all that we can be.
The mathematicians in my class need Rekenreks to develop addition and subtraction strategies. First, we need a large 100 Bead Demonstration Rekenrek in order to do whole class modeling and instruction. We also need smaller 20 bead Rekenreks for children to use learning tools as needed during instruction. Lastly we need the EIA Rekenrek Build a Set. Having the children build their own mathematical tools is great hands-on practice for the children. They can also take these Rekenreks home to use and practice fluency there.
Rekenreks are used to help develop addition and subtraction strategies and are great mathematical tools.
They help develop strategies such as doubling or finding near doubles as well as thinking in terms of 5s and 10s, instead of counting from one each time or counting on in addition and subtraction. Students improve their ability to regroup numbers when solving addition and subtraction problems. Having these resources would really enhance our math curriculum. The children love anything they can touch, manipulate, or handle. Rekenreks are the perfect addition to our classroom.
