My students need hands on math materials so that they can use the math objects to create and solve math story problems. The hands on materials will allow all children to gain strong mathematical problem-solving skills.
My students come from the heart of the city of Seattle, WA. My Kindergarten students often arrive to school with superior knowledge of their letters and sounds. They have strong preschool skills and are ready to explore the world of Art. They are creative and eager to paint, draw, and create! They strive to show their creative and artistic talents. They love Science and the love Mathematics. They are eager to create and explore the world of Kindergarten. They need art materials and school supplies. These necessary materials will allow children to create and explore the Arts as it is infused into STEM projects. Thank you for your support.
My Project
The hands-on math materials will allow the Kindergarten students to count, create, and solve daily math story problems. The children can use the colorful counters to create ten frame math story problems as well as have an option of using the character counters to add to their hands-on math time.
The creative counters will allow children to use their imaginations to develop addition and subtraction story problems.
The children can work in small groups or in pairs to help challenge one another in higher level mathematical story-problems.
The counting library will give all children a chance to learn, explore and solve high level mathematical story problems. They will use the double-sided counters, translucent counters, and the class set of ten-frames to extend their learning in problem-solving. It will allow for individual learning and for cooperative learning in math center instructional groups.
