My students need Chromebooks and VersaTiles to enhance their learning.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Most students have a hard time learning by listening, they need a hands-on way to understand what is being taught. I hope to bridge that gap by having engaging centers where they can both enjoy and learn at the same time.
My students have limited resources in terms of technology.
We have very old computers in my classroom and most of my students don't have assess to computers and/or the internet at home. My classroom consists of students with a mixture of learning levels and styles and I think if they had more hands-on centers which would include Chromebooks and VersaTiles, it would benefit them in class by reinforcing math skills. I would also be able to have more students completing assigned lessons on the computer.
The Chromebooks would be used to complete assigned math lessons as well as allow them to practice typing which they will need when taking standardized tests at the end of the year. VersaTiles are a hands-on activity where students answer questions and then place a number tile on top of the letter that corresponds with the answer. Students are able to check their answers by closing the case and flipping it over. This is a tool that I will be able to use all year long. I will also have the option to use them as a whole class, individually, or even in groups.
The Chromebooks would allow more students to complete math lessons on the computer at a time.
I would also be able to use them as a math center. The VersaTiles will give me the opportunity to let each students work on the skill that they are struggling with as well as reinforce current and prior math skills. As they practice this skill throughout the year they will continue to improve which will then give them the confidence to successfully complete the 4th grade.
