Help me give my students a class-set of scientific calculators to be used during classroom instructions, investigations and assessments - allowing everyone adequate tools with which to compete.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The majority of my students are from low-income families with high energy, a desire to learn and a limited amount a financial support.
They are high-school students so they want to fit-in; they just aren't sure of the appropriate way to make that happen.
They are learning to ask appropriate questions and challenge one another academically, and it is extremely exciting to watch them grow and become lifelong learners.
My students have a genuine desire to grow, they simply need a few tools (and maybe a little direction) in order to pursue their dreams.
My Project
My students are learning to take their algebraic skills into the geometric world around them. They are learning to calculate as well as understand the calculations of other scholars.
Most of my students have yet to venture outside a very small community.
Through geometric investigation they will be able to examine the world around them - even if that world is one they have yet to visit.
Using scale factors, drawings, blueprint etc, they will examine and perhaps construct bridges, and other architectural wonders. These particular lesson plans are designed to peak their interest beyond that with which they are already familiar.
