This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a diverse group of first graders in a Title One school. They are each unique with different learning styles and interests. Despite their differences, they come to school each day with open minds and open hearts and are ready to tackle the day.
Their passion for learning and the desire to do well is what makes them so phenomenal.
My students are thinkers. They persevere and support each other when learning new concepts. They build each other up. They feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes. These students have built relationships with not only me, but with each other. In our classroom, we are like a family. We laugh together, grow together and they encourage each other to be the best version of themselves that they can be.
My Project
My students love math. They especially enjoy math when we get to complete interactive notebooks or math academic games. Getting these new math supplies will encourage small group interactions as well as independent practice and bring some excitement back to small group time.
Did you know that math can be fun?
As my students work with the different math games they will develop skills in operations and algebraic thinking in both addition and subtraction within 20. These math materials will help them master counting, number patterns, place value, problem solving, and addition and subtraction fluency. The best part is that they will be having so much fun that they won’t even know that they are “learning.”
