My students are a group of 3rd grade students who are highly motivated when they know they are cared about.
My students recently suffered a terrible natural disaster, Huuicane Harvey, which was the most destructive hurricane that the city of Houston has ever experience. Most if not all of the students in our area lost everything.
The school is 100% economically disadvantaged and most of our students rely on the meals and snacks they receive at school because oftentimes, it is all they consume that day.
Many of my students come to school after facing many obstacles in their home lives. These problems often find their way into the classroom. Some are homeless, some live in shelters, some are foster kids, others are latch key kids with no adult home for several hours after they arrive home or they are responsible for taking care of their younger siblings while their parents are working.
My students have a desire to learn and grow. They want to be good role models for their younger siblings and also the students in the surrounding areas. They work hard each and every day that they walk into the shool building and they come in with a positive attitude despite what might be going on at home. I want to make sure that my students are afforded the same opportunities to learn as their peers who are not facing the same obstacles. To support my students thirst for knowledge I need math hands on activities that will facilitate their growth. The additional workstations activities will allow for more independent growth and will target each childs learning style. Enrichment or remediation will be easier because I can assign different activities and tutorials for those students requiring additional assistance.
These requested stations will be used daily and allow all my students to be college ready.
My students cannot adequately learn if they are not allowed to learn in a variety of ways. My lessons will integrate workstation activites and allow my students more choices to work on the still that they would like or need to strengthen. Your donations will make this happen!
