"Out of all the 2nd graders in the whole world, how did I get the best ones?" This is one question I ask my students every day.
Our Classroom is Our House.
We take care of one another, we encourage one another, we try our best together, we struggle together. We are a community of learners.
I have watched my students help one another in many ways. They play with a lonely child on the playground, they help friends complete their work, they teach each other, they work hard together and celebrate one another's successes, big and small.
Second grade is an important year in building number sense and mathematical skills and reasoning. This is when students begin to solve problems that involve regrouping. I feel these stamps can help my struggling students. We often use base 10 blocks to build numbers, but when this doesn't "click" for my students, I want another option. With these stamps, students can stamp their numbers instead of spending so much time drawing them. We also have a difficult time understanding the value of coins since they are not often used to make purchases. I know my students will enjoy stamping out the value in a math center!
