My students need a document camera and supplies such as hot dot pens, bins, and an organization cart to help them make meaning of content and give them more engaging, hands-on experiences in the classroom.
My students are third graders in a title 1 public school system with many students receiving free or reduced lunch. We are in a very small rural school district. The students are energetic, intelligent, and very eager to learn and try new things.
Our classroom is designed to meet all of my students' needs to make learning as meaningful as possible with a variety of resources and materials.
We like to focus on collaboration, critical thinking, and small groups. The students' potential is limitless, and they also believe they can accomplish anything especially with your help to improve our classroom supplies and resources.
My Project
Math concepts and reading comprehension can be a very difficult skill for some students to understand. I will be using all of these resources to help the students have a deeper understanding of the math and reading skills we are learning. I will use the document camera to go through math problems together on the board and read stories together as a class helping build classroom community.
By using math mentor texts and organizational materials, I am able to give the students a strong foundational knowledge that will play a huge role in the remainder of their education.
Hands-on math games and manipulatives are a huge part of our daily math time. The hands-on experiences really help the students understand difficult concepts. However, with using all these manipulatives so often, I need a way to organize them that students can easily use over time. The 10-drawer organization cart will house all of our math centers, so the students can easily access them independently. The plastic envelopes will be used to keep all the materials for one center in one place for the students. They will get to take the entire envelope back to their work area and be able to put everything back into their labeled envelope and drawer for the next student. The sand timers and hot dots will be available for the students to use at any time during math centers when they want to practice their math facts like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. These are huge skills that third graders have to master, and these will give them the independence to be able to practice when they want without disrupting their hardworking peers.
I want all my students to become great mathematicians and readers, and this project will give me the best opportunity to do that.
