Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students start out their day by having breakfast in the classroom together. This is a time to communicate about likes and dislikes and become more familiar with the English Language.
Coming back from Summer is difficult for many of the students because they spend three months only speaking in their native language and fall behind in their schooling.
My job is to provide as many resources as possible to aid in their learning. My students are loving children that need the extra support at school because their home life doesn't always provide what they need.
My Project
My students need some hands-on learning math materials! I think kids learn best when they can touch and manipulate materials and this is why I am asking for these five items. I want them to be able to build two and three dimensional shapes to better understand their differences.
Making learning into a game is always fun to practice and it teaches my students how to play in partners or groups.
One of the games that will help build communication is the addition and subtraction dominoes to help with fluency in numbers.
My students have a hard time with ten more and ten less. The 120 mat will be a great resource to add for the students to manipulate the numbers and see how they connect with each other.
The last resource I have requested in a graphing flip chart. I love that this resource can be done whole group or in small groups. Whole group gives the students the concrete information they need to be able to practice in small groups and control their graphs.
