My Students

This group of students come from very poor backgrounds and have seen more devastation in their life then most adults. But they stay positive and work hard because they believe their education will change their lives. My 6th grade class is very helpful and understanding when it comes to their peers needs. They come up with extraordinary ideas on how to help and some of those ideas have actually helped another. Our school is 99% free lunches and our parent involvement is extremely low.

These students are eager and willing to learn about the world.

They have a high desire to succeed! I want to give them the most I can and get them ready for the working world.

My Project

My 6th graders are allowed to use calculators on the state test and I need to help them prepare for use of the calculator, I first need to get one in their hands! These calculators will become a classroom resource and will be used for many different classes for many years.

My students are very good at doing calculations on paper and in their heads, but to prepare them for Algebra and beyond, I need to teach them the basics of using a simple scientific calculator.

I do not want them to become dependent on the calculator and have decided to only use them during tests.
