Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
How many of you remember solving problems using paper and pencil? Now imagine what would happen if students had the opportunity to use a manipulative to help them solve a problem. What a difference this can make. Some might see learning math as fun and enjoyable.
I have 30 diverse, fourth grade students, who are eager to learn and willing to achieve success.
My fourth grade students attend a school in southern California, which is a Title 1 school. Our class is made up of a very mixed group. These students all have a different way of seeing and learning things. They enjoy playing games, making rhymes, and finding neat ways to learn.
My Project
Donations that fund this project for my students will allow me to open their minds and instill a passion for learning. Your donation will help purchase number tiles, foam dice, a fraction activity center and a math activity station. Using a manipulative will help them learn interactively. Students will be able to use the math activity stations to create math problems on their own and help each other solve them. Learning can take place in various ways and I'm trying to reach and tap into all learning modes. Not all students are visual learners. Some are auditory and others more kinesthetic. That is why these students can benefit from having number tiles, foam dices and fraction tiles. These hands-on, interactive activities will deepen and enrich their learning. As part of my Math intervention, I would also be able to create stations to review and/or introduce these concepts in a small group setting.
While finances are limited within our district and state, one thing has not changed, our students.
Students desire to learn and achieve success. It is my greatest joy to see my students learn and master a new skill. I come to work everyday and try to find new ways to help my students learn. Please help me provide another way. My students would benefit from these malipulatives. One great teacher inspired me to teach. I hope to pass this great gift of teaching to my students.
