Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are diverse kids from different countries in Latin America. Our school is located in a low-income area in Texas, and over 90% of the school's population is economically disadvantaged. My students are all bilingual students who are still recovering from the devastation that was caused earlier last year by Hurricane Harvey. Not many of them were directly affected by the hurricane, but a few students did experience flooding and were forced to move to a different apartment. Because of the trauma they have experienced, I want to create an environment where they feel safe. I want them to look forward to coming to school and to feel completely engaged in all the learning activities.
My Project
This school year we have been focusing on counting and identifying numbers from 0-100. We are also focusing on addition and subtraction. Although most of my students have learned these concepts. I do have some students who need that extra push.
As a teacher I believe learning should be fun and there is no better way to do that than through hands-on activities.
My students will be able to practice addition and subtraction through the usage of Simple Addition Instant Learning Center and Simple Subtraction Instant Learning Center. They will practice their number recognition through 20 by using the pop and add game 12 and 20 during math centers. They will benefit from using these items to build on their math skills.
