Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first grade students face challenges in life, but they are always energetic, enthusiastic, and positive about their academic success. Our school faces the same issues as other low socioeconomic areas, but we are a gold mine in that the teaching staff is committed to ensuring our students get their basic needs met in order to focus on their academic and social growth. My students should be able to grow without worry or hunger with the focus on academic success.
My Project
My district has adopted a new math curriculum to help students build foundational skills before moving on to more complex math concepts. As a first grade teacher, I have witnessed how hands-on math manipulatives help students grasp new concepts quicker.
Students being able to handle resources in their hands will help them grasp conceptual ideas of new math ideas!
Moving base ten blocks in a place value chart, telling time on clocks, and writing using whiteboards and number bonds are just some examples of how my first graders will be utilizing math materials and resources in our classroom at school
