My Students
WA is a great school made up of dedicated teachers and the best kids you can imagine! We are a Title I school with 100% free breakfast and lunch. A lot of our families do not have the extra money for field trips, uniforms or school supplies. We have many families that can not afford food and some are homeless. We love our students here at Whitewater and we do everything in our power to give them the best opportunities to succeed!
My Project
The rekenreks will provide learners with the visual models they need to discover number relationships and develop a variety of addition and subtraction strategies, including doubles plus or minus one, making tens, and compensation, thereby leading to automatically of basic facts. The dry erase area also allows students to write an equation to match what they build with the rekenrek.
The students will be able to have their own tool to solve problems without having to share.
They will build their abstract math ideas to make he knowledge more concrete. Students will simply memorize math equations but have a solid understanding of what the equations mean and what they look like!
