My students need math games and hands-on math activities. I've found three great games for them to play. We also have an ant farm that needs ants to complete the process.

My Students

Our classroom utilizes student learning stations for reading and math. Merging with common core this year, students need to practice several math skills. These games will provide the incentive to practice. Learning is a lifelong quest - 2nd grade is only part of the journey.

Our school is a Title 1 - poverty school.

Students come from many backgrounds, but in general, are from low economic families. They are wonderful, delightful children who love to learn in a "fun" way. Math is typically one of the subjects that students struggle with. Any way to make math more hands-on and interactive will challenge the students.

My Project

The games for math that I have chosen will cover many of the common core requirements. Playing games reinforces the lessons taught. Hands-on activities encourage the students to want to practice. Students will learn about time, money, addition, subtraction, and place value. Our ants will be a unique Science center experience for the children to see how they form their colony underground.

The Title I students in my class have limited resources in their homes to practice learning strategies.

This donation will allow them to expand their knowledge in a fun, challenging environment.
