My students need problem solving kits, number lines, playing cards and other math manipulatives to help them understand and grasp the world of third grade math standards!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Every morning we start with morning meeting. This is a short time that we get to help our students leave their challenges and struggle they deal with on a daily basis at home and start the day fresh in a safe environment. It is a my favorite time to remind my students what a bright future they have
Our school is designed to focus on children who come from low income families and educate them to meet their potential.
They deal with so much more than just learning the third grade curriculum; they deal with poverty, hunger, and not always having a place to lay their head at night. But, by their bright smiles and eager desire to learn each day, they succeed. I am here to give them hope, and to provide them the best education possible
These math manipulative and tools will provide my students with the ability to better comprehend what they are learning. This will allow the students who are kinesthetic learners to learn with hands-on activities, and not just a bunch of numbers that don't make that connection. The multiplication flash cards will give them the opportunity to practice their math facts to build their fluency. The number line allows them to have a better number sense. The large money will allow me to display the different values of money so all students can visually see and learn how to add money. All these tools allow our third grade classroom to meet and achieve the Florida State Standards that are new to our district. Our school lacks many resources, so these math activities give them more resources to learn each concept and allows my students to dig deeper and really understand the math concepts they are learning.
Do you remember how hard math was for you kinesthetic learners?
Or how hard it was to see a bunch of numbers and not be able to touch objects to help you solve them? Or not be able to apply what you learned? These tools will allow the students better grasp the concept of multiplication/division and money.
