My kindergarten students are just entering the first year of their long academic career. Providing them with the necessary resources to ease their transition into school is key. I want to allow them to learn the way they learn best: through movement, hands-on play, art, exploration, and self-discovery.
My class is composed of a diverse set of learners with a variety of strengths and weaknesses; however, my students all have one thing in common: the desire to explore new concepts deeply, so they can best understand the world around them.
My Project
These math toolboxes contain the resources my students need to master building 0-20 with ten frames and base ten blocks. The pattern blocks will allow them to learn how to create and extend a variety of patterns. The dry erase 100’s chart, number line and ten frame trays will make teaching addition and subtraction so much easier and fun!
These hands-on tools make these concepts easier to understand thanks to the visuals, and they will also keep small group work time a lot more organized!
Small group time can be a bit hectic in Kindergarten! My class splits into two groups; half play centers and the rest come with me for an in-depth lesson. With these toolboxes, all the resources we need to dive deep into these concepts will be right at our fingertips! We won’t have to waste any time passing out supplies, and double checking to make sure everyone has what they need. These toolboxes will also allow them to see that you can show numbers in a variety of ways thanks to the ten frames and base ten blocks being accessible all at the same time. These kits will also make cleanup and transition time a snap, which is always a plus in Kindergarten!
