Empowering young students through problem solving and collaborative play is one of the best ways to keep youngsters engaged and hooked on learning. Learning math happens best when students are given the opportunity to explore, think critically, and solve problems together through play.
I have a class of inquisitive 5 and 6 years old.
There are 26 of them coming from a variety of backgrounds. All are engaged when the lessons involve math, critical thinking, and problem solving. We have an outstanding team of teachers, administrators, and parents in our school who want nothing more than the best for each and every student.
My Project
Kindergarten students learn best through play and hands-on exploration. They become more engaged when they work collaboratively or given a challenge. Board games that explore counting, number operations, money, and strategy will help in both problem solving and critical thinking. Young kids love to learn through interactive technology, so a tablet with a protective case will enable them to learn a variety of math concepts in a different, but current and relevant, way. The Marble Run kit is a toy for collaborative building. I hope to bring out the creativity and critical thinking skills of my students and maybe see future engineers in the making.
The addition of new math board games, technology through a tablet, and a building kit will enable me to provide more opportunities for each student to engage in hands-on learning and critical thinking skills.
These educational items will also enable me to address the different learning styles students have. A Kindergarten class filled with curious and inquisitive kids should be given the chance to explore and learn in a variety of ways.
