Do you remember what it was like to study math when you were in school? Were you able to stick with it all the way through until AP Calculus? Think about how much easier it would have been if you had a way to quickly visualize all of those tricky concepts.
I consider all of my students to be "MITs", Mathematicians in Training, because that's exactly what they are.
My students are in grades 9-12, taking classes that range from Algebra I through AP Calculus. They fall in many different places on the math spectrum with a majority having significant gaps in mathematical skills and basic reasoning. Many are on a path which will require remedial math courses when they enter college if some sort of intervention isn't put in place. However, despite these barriers, they are eager to learn. They thrive when challenged in meaningful, thought provoking ways, and they're yearning for an engaging, joyful classroom.
My Project
The MimioTeach will allow us to bring that joy and engagement into math class that my students desire each and every day. It will update our classroom to 21st century standards and give students meaningful ways to connect with the abstract math material they are learning. The MimioTeach transforms our typical classroom whiteboard into a smartboard that brings the math to life! It will give us a way to model those tricky equations, graph lines, rotate shapes, create tutorial/study videos, model calculus and so much more all while keeping students interested and engaged in the material that is so critical for them to learn.
The funding of this project will greatly improve my classroom.
It will allow me to more accurately mimic the styles of college math courses across the country, thus ensuring that my students enter college at the appropriate level with the best possible chance of success.
