My students need some small supplies to display their work and formulas they use. Our classroom pencil sharpener recently broke as well, and only pencils are used in math.
My students are middle school math students. Middle school is when students start to appreciate the meticulous nature of math. While it is initially a struggle, students really do start to understand the detail and personal success in math!
Maybe because it's later in the year, but my students are starting to realize and appreciate the consistency and order with mathematics.
It has been great to watch their growth. We are at the point during the year where some supplies are running out, but other supplies can be used to share different ways math solutions can be calculated.
My Project
It has been rewarding to see students appreciating their math this school year. Though the students have faced some progressive struggle they understand the organization and detail in their math is to their benefit.
It would be nice to have some items so students can keep their notes organized and work collaboratively.
The large display paper is ideal for students working together, posting their work, and everyone seeing the thought process of everyone else at one time. The additional discussion created is great as well as the realization things can be solved more than one way. We have started using color coded sentence strips to post formulas that are referenced during our work. And while there is coordinate plane paper on a large scale for homework, a smaller pad for individual notebooks would be helpful.
