I have 228, high school students in 7 math classes. The school has too few printers. The kids are constantly looking for a place to get things printed out. My kids know that they can come to my room and get a schedule or maybe their grades printed.
My kids are good kids with very few advantages.
They can be motivated to work hard, but too often even the simplest tasks are made more difficult by the lack of proper resources. They have big dreams, but there just seems to be too many hurdles that must be cleared to get there.
I want to remove hurdles where I can. One thing I have been able to do is make it easy for my kids to get things printed. There are too few teachers in the building who have the ability to print off a kids grades, schedule, or even a list of missing work. I brought a personal printer to my classroom so that I can better serve my students. I do not mind providing the printer and I have purchased the cartridges in the past, but this is too expensive for me to keep up.
The printer I have in my room is just one way that I serve my kids.
I need the ability to print schedules, grades, missing work, worksheets, and guided notes. Using the printing capability in my building is too unreliable. I best serve my kids by being the one who is most reliable.
