Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students deserve the world! These scholars live in a historic neighborhood with a rich history but are also historically underserved. They love building, learning, and playing with friends. Daily, they persevere and fight for their education even though many are severely behind on academic skills.
My Project
This project contains two types of materials. First, it will give every scholar in the class their own set of multiplication flashcards to take home. I've purchased some for those who need it the most but have limited funds. Our biggest academic gap is the ability to multiply fluently. Second, a major part of our day is math stations.
Math stations are an incredible opportunity that scholars have during the day in which scholars divide into six groups and work on differentiated material for their needs.
Earlier this year, we were funded to start our math games collection. Now that we have played most of the games for several weeks each, we are ready to expand our collection to new, exciting, and more challenging games. These games will tackle the biggest academic gap we've faced this year: fluent multiplication. They will also get us started with our upcoming unit in January on fractions.
