Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Math is often a very frustrating subject for many students. However, it is so important for them to really understand basic elementary concepts in order to be successful throughout the rest of their academic career.
Stuart J. Murphy's MathStart books are excellent tools to introduce and teach math skills. Kids can easily relate because the contexts are familiar and real, and the math is woven right into the storyline. They can see for themselves that math skills really are life skills.
I am a second grade teacher at W.H. Robinson Elementary School in Winterville, N.C. I truly believe that these books would be an asset in my classroom and help students better master basic elementary concepts such as time, subtraction, addition, fractions, etc.
