Help me give my students math folder games and other activities as fun and enriching ways to learn math skills to help them be successful not only in the classroom, but also in the real world.
I teach in an urban academy community school that provides a structured safe haven for alternative learners. We deliver highly specialized curriculum designed to engage children where they are developmentally delayed. Our academy is a non-profit school that fosters belonging and acceptance for every child. Our school is filled with eager to learn students, innovative, hardworking staff members, and supportive administrative leaders.
Specifically, I teach fourth and fifth grade and it is important for me to always make sure my students are provided with every opportunity and every resource they need to be able to learn, work, and grow as students.
My classroom is the home of 36 eager learners. Since our school district reports 100% of our students as economically disadvantaged, students lean on me and our school to provide them with what they need to learn. By understanding the way children learn best, I know it is important to not only make sure they are provided with basic school supplies, math and reading resources, but also recognizing when they need assistance with their basic needs being met so they can learn and work to the best of their abilities and become successful, productive adults in the future!
My Project
I have included a super-fun way to build math skills—with instant reinforcement!
My first item is the Math Facts Folder Game Libraries KGr 5 Complete Set.
What better way to learn essential math facts than with hands-on games that are super-fun to play! Each library comes complete with 10 folder games, so up to 10 students can play at once—with no prep work required. Children simply grab a folder and the color-coded pouch of game pieces…follow the illustrated 3-step instructions on the folder to play the game independently…then use the included answer card to check their own work. And because each library focuses on a single operation, students receive all the reinforcement they need to master the math facts! It is fun, engaging, and differentiated to the MAX to help support all levels of learners!
My second item is the Power Pensupsup Math Quiz Cards along with the Power Pens. Kids just touch an answer with the special Power Pen …and the pen tells them if they’re right or wrong. Each pack comes with 53 double-sided cards and an answer key. Complete set includes all 8 packs shown, for a total of 424 cards. This helps to develops skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, place value, telling time and money. This provides students with a plethora of math skills that they can use to be successful not only in the classroom, but also in the real world and in their future.
