Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are truly exceptional! They work hard to succeed. They persevere when faced with a challenge, creatively inspire our community, and believe in one another. They are tomorrow's leaders and world-changers. They are our future and together we can help them reach their dreams. More than 100% of our students receive free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch. They come to a low-income Title I school every day where resources are very limited. Some of our students are unable to purchase supplies and the school is only able to do so much with the budget they have. Our students strive to do their best!
My students are energetic, smart, and motivated to succeed.
Even though they come from a variety of backgrounds, including race, religion and family structure, we all work together to create a unique learning experience, instilling a love of learning and exploring that will last a lifetime. Many of my students' parents work multiple jobs and are unable to attend school events, therefore parents are missing out of their students' successes.
My Project
My students come from all backgrounds and may not have very many experiences on how math, science, and writing fit into the real world. A high percentage of our students struggle with seeing math and science lessons being tied to everyday life, world issues and current news. DynaMath magazines, along with SuperScience and StoryWorks, have great high interest stories of current topics and news events that tie in all three subject concepts on the students' grade and ability level. Charts, graphs, percentages, fractions, probability are all skills that are used in their story features. There are problems for the students to solve that are related to each section. The students actually see the connection to math from topics they generally do not see as math-related. We will use the magazines to use as brainstorming math project ideas for the students to create in small groups.
Nonfiction literature with a math and science focus are very hard to find and not offered to my students within my school's budget.
Your donation will give my students high quality and high interest literature that highlights mathematics along with science! For the students to choose math and science projects to create, they must me exposed to different topics that relate to real word and current day topics.
