This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My middle school math students are curious, funny, energetic, and creative. They love hands on activities and learning new things. My school is located in a low-income area, and our students have diverse cultural backgrounds.
Despite the economic challenges, my students consistently strive to do their best and to learn the material.
They are hard-working and are full of surprises. I love working with them, and I am glad to be able to teach such an awesome group of kids.
My Project
My students are from low-income families who have difficulty buying basic school supplies such as pencils, folders, and calculators. These items are needed to help my students complete assignments and learn math through hands on activities. I have also requested noise cancelling headphones. Most of the classrooms are separated by dividers which leads to a high noise level that is distracting to the students during independent assignments. These headphones will allow the students to focus on their work instead of the noise around them.
These school supplies will help my students engage in their math lessons and be academically successful.
I have requested glue sticks, crayons, and whiteboards because my students love math projects requiring art and creativity. They also enjoy using whiteboards to play math games and to show their work. Unfortunately we are running out of these school supplies as we reach the end of the year, and I would like to replace some of these supplies so we can continue to engage the students in math activities.
