Our class is a combination of students with communication struggles, students that struggle with their emotions and students with academic struggles. While most of the students struggle with academics, it is my job to help them succeed in the real world.
Your donations help these students strive in and outside the classroom!
Provide students with materials to help them connect with the real world. We are looking to get some extra ink for the printer in our classroom. Students print out assignments they typed up in their classes or worksheets are printed for students to during warmups. Interactive notebooks are created from previous paper donations and the ink you provide for our printer.
This year has been pretty amazing so far! We have learned about Ancient Civilizations, Medieval Times and The 13 colonies and the US constitution. In mathematics we have reviewed fractions, decimals, place value, addition, multiplication, integers, order of operations, algebraic expressions and exponents. Many students have gone from hating mathematics to enjoying the learning in class.
Give students the right materials to learn in a hands-on way. Students work better when the material is explained with visuals. We are looking to get materials that are tangible for student learning. Such as base ten blocks that stick to the boards which will help students understand borrowing and regrouping. Students also struggle with geometry overall as a topic in school. The magnetic shapes will help bring them closer to understanding with these materials. The materials we are looking for will help students learn from interacting with their peers with a hands-on approach. The materials that will stick to the board will allow students a visual to the materials they have in front of them.
When it sticks to the board it sticks in their head.
We are looking for a way to get students up and moving while working with tactile materials in mathematics. These materials will support the learning of the students in a variety of topics such as money, geometry, place value and angles. It's my goal to show students that mathematics is more exciting than they allow.
