Math Robotics With TI Innovator Rover

My Students

As a math teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My students are awesome, intelligent, inquisitive, brilliant, like to think outside the box, learn by doing and are willing to be challenged.

They are not afraid to get down to business, dig deep, and express their opinions. They stick up to what is right and value knowledge and the learning experience.

My Project

Students will program the Rovers by connecting the Rovers to the calculators. The Rover can hold a marker so students can program it to draw shapes, graphs, and even pictures. The Rover also has a motion detector so students can program it to make turns when it gets close to objects.

Students at my school have limited exposure to career possibilities for their future.

We are trying to expose students to topics in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) in hopes that they find a career path for their future. The Rover will teach them how to use the programming language Basic to control the Rover. Students will also have to integrate logic and sequencing with math concepts such as angles and science concepts such as distance and speed as they make plans for the Rover.

The Rover will help STEAM concepts come to life and will provide the students with immediate feedback and a chance to revise their plan as they go.
