My Students
My mathematicians are the brightest group of learners! Although they struggle to keep up with their classmates in their regular classroom, they are super hard workers, and really love learning! A large population of my students are English language learners, and come from other countries, so my biggest struggle is getting them to learn how to use manipulatives. My other groups have some gaps in their learning. In a larger group they become easily frustrated and begin to lose confidence in themselves. However, in our small group, they thrive and love "getting it". I love seeing the smile on their faces when they realized they've learned a new concept and are excited to show it off!!!
My Project
As an AIS Math teacher in a Title 1 school, my students struggle to keep up in their regular classrooms. However, when we are together in our small groups, I try to gear the learning to their needs- where they struggle, what their misconceptions are, and what they are really great at!
Without an actual Academic Interventions curriculum, I have to search endless hours for materials that can truly help them be the best mathematicians they can be.
That is why these resource books will help me plan lessons that are geared towards their grade level standards, but still keeps in mind their pace and the guidance they require.
