This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
A typical day in my classroom looks and sounds like children working together in small groups that we call "jobs," learning to read, write, solve math problems but most importantly think!
My building is located in an urban setting within a high poverty area, and it consists of Pre-K through second-grade classrooms as well.
As cross categorical classrooms. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students thrive off of structure, routines, and organization. My students may not always come to school prepared for the day, but one thing they all do come with is a love of learning.

My Project
I am always looking for materials and ways to keep my students actively engaged in their learning. This is hard enough in a normal school year and COVID-19 is making it quite challenging. I know the stacking cones, tweezer animals and nuts and bolts will keep them excited about their learning.
Hands-on learning is our primary focus in kindergarten.
It is so important that our kids get to use materials to like nuts and bolts to count and screw on to show they recognize numbers and can represent each number. The tweezers will allow them to build their fine motor skills while also demonstrating patterning, measurement and sorting.
These materials will help fill our individual learning bins so that each student has an activity of their own to complete. This is essential now that we have guidelines due to COVID-19 that prevent us from sharing materials.
