My students are eager pre-kindergarteners and this classroom is their first school experience. They are part of a Title I school, with the majority qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. Most are English language learners, with Spanish being their home language.
Children today learn in many different ways, and as teachers, we must discover these ways.
"If a child cannot learn in the way we teach, we must teach in a way the child can learn." The best way to do this is with hands-on activities.
My budget has been cut by over half, and I want to be able to provide the same experiences that most little ones get to experience in preschool, but due to lack of funding it is very hard to be able to provide my students with these materials.
Early intervention and the more opportunities we provide for these children, the better students they become and the earlier they will develop a love for learning.
My Project
My students need Hands-On Patterning, Graphing, and Counting Trays to help them develop early math skills in a fun and hands-on way. The trays will easily help keep the counters in place as the students work. The students will be using the trays in small groups and during centers so that they can practice what has been taught in class. They will learn one-to-one correspondence, learn how to make a pattern, and learn how a graph works.
My students love to learn hands-on and it’s amazing to see how useful these tools can be during a lesson.
These trays will help to support all students by allowing them to play with the math.
