My students need a copy of Factor Frenzy to help them master their math facts, and a quality tripod for use by our entire school for student-created films that enhance their learning.
My third grade class is full of rising stars that have everything it takes to be the pride of our country. They are intelligent, energetic, enthusiastic and hard working.
In spite of the fact that my students attend "a high poverty school" I would like to provide these deserving children with the best resources possible to help them fulfill their greatest potential.
As I sat down to write a request I was torn between two areas of need. Should we focus on mathematics or the film project? Their future will require them to be both capable in all areas of academics as well as creative. So I decided to ask for two items that I believe will make a difference in their learning.
Our first project involves the creative side of our third graders.
Our school has a video camera that my third graders are using to film a movie about the books they are reading. This project has helped them enhance their love for reading, kept them very engaged and allowed them to develop their creativity in "showing what they know" about reading.
Our other project involves the mathematical side of these students. They are working on mastering their multiplication facts.
Research shows that students learn best when we engage as many of their senses as possible. We are already using music, manipulatives and chanting to help us remember those challenging multiplication facts. However, some of our students would benefit tremendously from a game called Factor Frenzy that helps them learn through movement.
Our creative third graders have written their scripts, put together costumes, rehearsed their lines and begun to film their video, however, their film suffers severely from the third grade wobblies. A tripod would allow them to produce a video that wouldn't make everyone watching feel seasick and would allow them to create a quality product.
My mathematical third graders think that the animals in the movie "Madagascar" said it best in their song, "We like to move it - move it! The students would benefit enormously from a game called Factor Frenzy that allows students to move and play an exciting game that will help them memorize their math facts.
Your help will make such a difference in the lives of these great kids. They are aiming for the stars, with a little boost from you I know they can achieve their dreams!
